On May 1, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Harlow Rd. in reference to a reported armed person. While enroute, Communications advised that the armed suspects had left and provided a description of the passenger car. A deputy responding to the area located the suspect vehicle on Harlow near Tuttle Rd and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but and the vehicle fled. As the vehicle approached Checker Dr., the vehicle came to a stop. The driver and passenger followed verbal commands and were detained. The driver was identified as Jose Santiago Pelayo.
Additional deputies responded to the caller’s location to speak with the victim who reported a car at the residence had been damaged.
Pelayo was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for charges of felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving while license revoked-impaired revoked, speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, misdemeanor open container alcohol violation and driving while impaired. Mr. Pelayo was also cited for injury to personal property based on facts of the evidence on scene. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for May 1, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
