On July 2, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to NC-49 S., Denton, in reference to trespassing. Upon arrival, the deputies located a male, identified as Lawrence Obadia Cross, who was attempting to live on the property and had been asked to leave. While Cross was gathering his belongings, deputies located a handgun that had been reported stolen. Cross and another male subject began to argue and Cross retrieved a pocket knife from his pocket, bladed his stance and appeared ready to fight. Deputies were able to take Cross into custody.
Cross was transported to Randolph County Detention Center, where the magistrate found probable cause for felony possession of a stolen firearm and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon. He was given a $5,000 secured bond and a court date of July 3, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.
