On July 23, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Thayer Rd., Trinity, in reference to an armed person who had fired a gun at the residence following an altercation. While in route, the caller stated the subject had left and returned. Upon arrival, deputies heard voices on the front porch of the residence and walked that direction. Then, they heard a passenger car drive off at a high rate of speed south on Thayer Rd. The victims identified the driver of the vehicle as the one who had fired at the residence. Additional units pursued the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and accelerated to well over the speed limit, committing multiple traffic violations. The driver suddenly slowed and pulled to the shoulder near the Cashatt Rd. intersection on Thayer Rd. The male subject, later identified as Donnie James Gray, complied with all commands and was taken into custody. A firearm was not located during the search. Gray consented to testing for alcohol as the odor was emitting from his breath.
Following a blood draw at Randolph Health, Gray was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, driving while license revoked - impaired revoked, speeding 80 in a 55, reckless driving to endanger, open container alcohol violation, stop sign violation, and unsafe passing.
