On April 10, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old US Hwy 64, Lexington, in reference to a suspicious vehicle. During the investigation, deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Lexington, NC. The driver was identified as Johnathen Sherman Hughes (alias Johnathen Hughes Pemberton). Hughes attempted to flee on foot when deputies tried to detain him for further questioning but was quickly apprehended. Following the investigation, Hughes was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Detention Center where the magistrate found probable cause for the charge of Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. He was given a $2,500 unsecure bond and a court date was set for May 9, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
