On February 3, 2026, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Hollow Tree Drive, Liberty, in reference to a gunshot/assault.
Upon arrival, deputies entered the residence and identified the two subjects with gunshot wounds, and administered aid until EMS arrived for transport.
Following the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division, charges were sought against Treven Terrill Benton for felony breaking and/or entering, four counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injuries, felony attempted first-degree murder. The magistrate found probable cause and issued warrants for arrest.
On March 18, 2026, Benton was located in Guilford County, arrested, and transported to the Guilford County Detention Center, where he was issued no bond and a first appearance was set for March 23, 2026, in Randolph County District Court.
